Free Marketing Strategy using Tumblr

Driving targeted traffic to your product offers is a necessary step you must take if you want your business to survive. There are two types of traffic sources that you can choose from. I always recommend paid traffic but free marketing strategies do exist.

The free marketing strategy that I’m going to share with you is one that can be done by using Tumblr. I think the potential for driving traffic using Tumblr is not recognized by other marketers just yet.

But in my experience, if you are able to position yourself strongly on Tumblr then you will have a strong asset for your business.

I did some experimentation on Tumblr by helping out a client increase the amount of traffic to her website which is in the spirituality niche.

Here’s the Tumblr blog that I created for her:

As of now, the account has 8,190 followers. And if you have experience with Tumblr – then you know how hard it is to get a following like that because of how the platform is set up.

The interesting thing about this social media platform is that it behaves like having an email list. Whenever you post something, all of your followers receive it in their feed and have the option to either like or repost it.

Now, here’s the magic sauce of why I think Tumblr can be a great platform to use to drive traffic…

When someone reposts your post then all of their followers will receive your post too. And that gives their followers the opportunity to repost it again to their followers.

This is a crazy powerful chain that gives your posts a ton of juice. I have multiple posts right now that have over 700 reposts which has created a consistent stream of traffic to her website.

If you want to take advantage of this free marketing strategy, there’s a few steps you should take. The first step is to create a branded Tumblr blog that is related to your niche.

When you have that done I also recommend you use the scheduled post feature within Tumblr to put your content posting on autopilot.

The next step is to connect your Tumblr account to the Tumblr Stalkr app. It’s a free app that you’re going to need to follow and unfollow people who have shown some interest in other related blogs.

In Tumblr – you can only follow 200 people each day so when you choose to follow someone, make sure that the person has shown substantial interest in a related blog post.

A great way to laser target the individuals that have the potential to become a customer of yours is to install the Tumblr mobile application. I use the app because it’s less bloated and is so much faster.

When I open the app, I search for blogs that are in the same niche as mine. I then look at their post notes and click on it. There should now be a list of users that appear. These users are the people you need to follow one by one all the way down the list.

When you max out the number of people you can follow which is 5,000 then you need to login to Tumblr Stalkr. The last step is to go into the unfollowed tab and remove each user one by one.

Since these people decided not to follow you back – you don’t want them taking up space that could be used for someone else.

And then you just rinse and repeat the process over and over again and watch your number of targeted followers increase. I’ve been able to bring in many customers to my partners business using this method.

If you do the exact same thing, there’s a high possibility that you too can bring targeted traffic your business.
